This day was everything I love and more. So full of adventure, love, and heart.
This was one of my double-header weekends with one wedding on Saturday in Salt Lake, and then Taylor + Johnny’s wedding on Sunday on the Oregon Coast. I rarely do this because I just don’t think it’s the smartest option in case there are delayed flights, cancellations, and I just am usually not feeling 100% after a long wedding day— all you photographers out there who are reading this absolutely know what a “wedding hangover” means to us. haha.
But, I’m so glad that Taylor pretty much was the one who talked me into it. haha. I always leave it up to the bride + groom, letting them know of what all possible outcomes may be, but Taylor + Johnny are so incredibly laid back that she was literally down for whatever. She was just excited to have me there to be the one to capture their day— and that made me so happy and so willing to do it even more.
I arrived in Portland around 7am on Sunday morning and took a shuttle up to the coast— immediately going to meet all the girls getting ready. This was the first time I had met Taylor and she was so flipping cute! I knew instantly that we would get along so good and that we would have a blast on their day.
We hiked back to their first look spot— a spot that was chosen by them in a previous visit to the coast— through thorn bushes— haha so much easier done in regular clothes over a wedding dress, and I’m sure Taylor will one hundred percent vouch for that. We made it to the cliffs edge with the most amazing and stunning view of the coast where her groom stood. And this is where I first met Johnny! He was facing the ocean waiting or his bride to approach him— and first got me instead saying “oh hey! I’m Kylie— gonna be following you around all day” and that’s that. We were all pretty much friends immediately. haha.
This was one of the trickier first looks where we were all walking over thorn bushes in tight areas— but it was absolutely perfect for the two of them and I’m so happy they chose that spot. So pretty, right?
The thing that I love most about the fact that they had their wedding along the Oregon Coast— is it’s the place they grew up and spent a lot of their time. So going back to it for the biggest day of your life only made it that much more special. Taylor had a “first look” with her brother in law and dad in front of the house that she grew up in and it made it that much more perfect.
A ceremony full of tears and laughter in the cutest little lodge along the ocean, running along the beach with our toes in the cold wet sand after becoming husband and wife— and soaking up every little moment together, even the little asian lady who was really just trying to help Taylor’s veil catch the wind (still dying over this, see below). I had such a blast with these two and a forever love for them— for Taylor’s carefree spirit and willingness to let her dress get a little dirty and wet for all the memories it would make, for Johnny’s incredible positive attitude and willingness to do and go along with absolutely anything, for the little day after session we had running in the warm sun and spending the last little bit of their time on the coast with family— this day was nothing short of perfect. Perfect for them and their love and what they are all about— and who they are together.
